AFAIK, there's a general dispute (involving RaMBaM at one extreme, always
correcting, the Sefer haManhig at the other, not correcting lest we
embarrass, and many *acharonim* delineating when to or not to correct) over
whether to correct a *ba'al qriyah* who makes a mistake in meaning (and the
answer may differ depending on other variables: *minhag hamaqom*, whether
the BQ is experienced/would not be embarrassed, ...).  I'm not aware of
anyone who insists that the Maftir (who, in most situations but perhaps not
Shiras David <http://www.torah.org/learning/halacha/classes/class363.html>,
can be a minor) be corrected for the type of mistake mentioned by RDL (or
even for what most would consider more-serious mistakes, e.g. accidentally
leaving an entire word out), especially when he is not leining from a
*q'laf*, but I wouldn't be shocked if such an opinion existed.
