I found a bit of discussion on the topic here:

There, it was pointed out that the Sefaradi tradition is to read these as a
kamatz gadol.

Given that, It would seem to me that the only justification for reading it
as a kamatz katan would be if manuscripts with the Palestinian nikud have
the "o" sound there.  Otherwise, rather than reading it in a way that nobody
(that is, nobody who reads a kamatz gadol as "ah") has ever read it before,
we need to rework our assumptions about whether every unaccented closed
syllable gets a "tenu'ah ketanah," or about how we define a closed syllable,
or about whether a dagesh in a non-beged-kefet letter can only be a dagesh
chazak.
