Don't you think there is a difference on the one hand between a GRA changing the placement of the works of a paytan, or the TaZ changing the placement of the work of a paytan, because they felt there was a problem al pi din (hefseik) with the paytanim's placement, and on the other hand a ba'al dikduk changing the words of Anshei K'nesses Hag'dola because the ba'al dikduk thoughtr he knew better?

Hakol l'fi ham'vayeish v'hamisbayeish: in the case of the GRA and tha TaZ it was g'dolei olam having a machlokes in din with talmidei chachamim who were not that far removed, for the most part, from being contemporaries; while in the case of the ba'alei dikduk, while they knew their grammar, they were by no stretch of the imagination even close to being g'dolei Torah, and they had the hubris to take it upon themselves to change the wording of the g'dolim shebig'dolim of two millennia earlier whom they apparently perceived as being less knowledgable in dikduk .

But if they saw some tefilos using Lashon Tanach and others using Lashon Chazal, what gave them the right to standardize *that*? Why not allow each tefilla to keep its own dialect? Is that not motzi laaz al harishonim?

Akiva Miller

I think we need more empathy.

They did not feel they were changing, but either restoring

Or simply to make it consistent for the sake of the misspalllim which is Rambam's AKHG taking it out of the hands of individuals
And Rabbi Abahu's justification for standardizing the t'kios

Ta"z removed akdamus from after the first passuk to before. Clearly we see akdamus was a hakdamah to the targum it's even in the artscroll Book!

GRA removed yotzros until later in the davening.

AIUI Gashem is found in tanach as is Gaffen

See Baer on Nochri over Goy in shelo assani. He outlines a definite philosophy

Shalom and Regards, RRW
