I think we need more empathy.

They did not feel they were changing, but either restoring

Or simply to make it consistent for the sake of the misspalllim which is Rambam's AKHG taking it out of the hands of individuals
And Rabbi Abahu's justification for standardizing the t'kios

Ta"z removed akdamus from after the first passuk to before.  Clearly we see akdamus was a hakdamah to the targum it's even in the artscroll Book!

GRA removed yotzros until later in the davening.
