[Mesorah] List of all the Passeks in the Bible

Thanks, Dov, this is incredibly helpful.

I have actually been in contact with Prof. Leah in the past year or 2, and we had a long talk about a year ago.

I texted her this morning, before I sent my message to this group, but she responded that she is extremely busy for the next 2 weeks.

As you say, I think there might be a copy of her doctorate in the Bar Ilan library, but I doubt there are any others available, from what I remember her telling me back then. It’s not online. I’ve never seen it myself, although I’d very much like to, especially right now.

You seemed to be referencing it by looking at it. Do you have a copy yourself? How did you have those wonderful sources from her work?

Do you happen to know where in the Leningrad Codex the list appears? Leningrad is online, and if I know where to search, maybe I can see it.

And do you know where the Aleppo list is? If she compares the 2, may I assume that Aleppo also has a list?

Thanks for taking the time to assist!

Yitzhak

Prof. Leah Himmelfarb (nee Widowski) of Bar Ilan wrote her doctorate on the Passek. Printed in 5750.

She uses as a basis the list of passeks in the Leningrad Codex (587 passeks) starting on page 19 of her work. So this is your main list from early times.

On page 44ff she discusses 6 differences between Leningrad and Alleppo codex (a 98.5% correspondence) WRT passeks.

In a table from page 361-374 she lists another 223 examples of passeks occuring in various other significant manuscripts and printed additions.

Her work, whose main value is her dealing with the syntactic and grammatical uses and ramifications of the pasek, is the most comprehensive and valuable work on the passek I know of (in spite of 35 years passing since she wrote it).

I dont think it is readily available anywhere, maybe in Bar Ilan or other accademic libraries.

Hello All,

I understand that there is a list, or maybe lists, of all the passeks in the Mikra, written in the time of the Ba’alei HaMessorah.

Does anybody know where such a list appears?

If so, how I can access it?

Thanks.

Yitzhak
