One partial explanation that I’ve heard (don’t remember where):

In Israel, the practice is to say “livrakha” after this phrase.  Since the word in question isn’t pausal, it makes sense to say “haGeshem” rather than “haGashem”.  FTR, ingrained habits are hard to break; I’m more likely to say “haGashem”, but I expect this to change with time.
