it is older than the Hebrew. Many of the songs printed in the S'dorim are based on popular German songs, including Chad Gadya.

First came the secular German song.

Then came a Hebrew/Aramaic translation or adaptation or an acrostic song.

Then sang to the original German melody or put to a popular melody.

Not from the Rishonim, not from the Geonim. From popular German culture, sort of like a dessert: to finish off what people think is a dry ritual with some enoyable, tasty tidbits, with enjoyable and good ideas and a nice popular tune.

So really these songs fall into the framework of efikomen, something nice to end the evening.

nun boy

should be nun bau

meaning Now Build

The greeting for Seder Nights in German Communities was/is
Bau Gut

Adir Hu had an aphbetic acrostic in German staring with

Almechtiger Gott nun bau Dei Temple Schira ...

AFAIK The German text is about as old as the Hebrew text

I'm not sure of ths history of Echad mee yodei'a or Chad Gadya
