Again, much more complex than your answers suggest.

The real reason is rooted in the interplay of the languages that Chazal spoke, Hebrew and Aramaic.

In L'shon Chazal, the interplay leads to many very interesting and notable results, that have been obfuscated, covered over, ignored, hypocorrected by many self-styled "grammarians" who did not understand the basics of L'shon Chazal.

A full answer to your issue would require a careful documentation of the oldest vocalized mss. of L'shon Chazal, as well as an understanding of the different verb systems of Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic.

An example that shows the complexity is the word "nitkawwan." That is the way it appears in the oldest mss, and even in things from the Rambam that he vocalized.  Ponder which binyan that is and why it is not "hitkawwen."

The general question I have is when does the Ayin in hispoal get a patach vs. A tzeirei etc.?

Some possible functions include

Pausal vs. Non pausals or positions within the phrase

The kinds of consonants in the mix

Tanach vs. Rabbinic Hebrew etc.
