A more economical and literal translation would simply be "exalted". 
For one thing, the same verb, in exactly the same form, could also be 
used of a woman, since she is not the verb's subject but its object.  It 
could also be used to describe a promotion from an extremely lowly 
position to a not-so-lowly but hardly "great" one.
