Notice the relevance of Ben Zoma's definition of "ashir" to the 2nd half
Rashi's definition of "evyon". 

Also, recall that Rashi held of 1 and 2 letter shorashim. To him, there
could well be a common shoresh of alef-veis, not meant as a derashah.
