Your last sentence makes perfect sense -- but can you explain your other
example: 

If "ki im" is a phrase, why does the trop always divide it? 

And, for that matter: could you explain your prior message: for "ki ani
H E", how does the fact that the phrase start with a "ki" explain that
ani-H gets a mercha?
