[Mesorah] Davening: Pesach vs. Hag Hammatzos

The analysis of where HaZaL use l'shon hakhomim and when they use Biblical Hebrew in the davening is long and rather complicated. But, in general, if there are Biblical Hebrew phrases actually found in the T'NaKh, they are preferred over l'shom Hakhomim. So, in davening, the yomim tovim (excluding Sh'mini 'Atzeres, which has no Biblical term), are referred to by their Biblical names, whereas in L'shon Hakhomim, they are Pesach, 'Atzeres, and Hag. This is a general rule, not ad hoc for this issue, and impacts dozens of other word choices in davening.

Subject: [Mesorah] Davening: Pesach vs. Hag Hammatzos

In Tanach Hag Hammatzos
Starts the 15th of Nissan [Hodesh Harishon]

Pesach starts the 14th of Nissan

--------------------

In Talmud Pesach often appears to replace Hag Hammatzos.

Q1: Is Pesach L'shon Hazzal for the Holiday

Q2: Is there a reason that the liturgy seems to favor L'shon Tanach over L'shon Hazzal for the Amidah for example?
Shalom and Regards, RRW
