Indeed there are differing techniques WRT hataf patach vs. Sh'va na with Heidenheim on one extreme, GRA and R M Breuer on the other, and EG Koren in the middle somewhere.

Disclaimer: I don't mean this is a hefker velt Cv"S.  Rather that forms and emendations varied as per traditions and schools.

And imho it seems silly to superimpose the presumptions of system A upon System B.

EG it seems that the GRA opposed Hanau's corrections and Birnbaum too him even further.
