Except that in <http://www.aishdas.org/avodah/vol07/v07n039.shtml#14>,
RSM showed a pretty clear *documented* path from the Greek estole'
(squish that accent onto the e) to the word "tallis". Complete with
mishnayos that have a leading alef (alef-tzadi or alef-samech,
depending on the masucript).
