When we visited a matza bakery before Pesach, I asked the fellow 
working the over how hot the oven was.  He replied, "Between 1200 and 
1300 degrees (Fahrenheit)."

If what he told me is true,  then certainly Chazal had the means to 
reach higher temperatures. YL
