*“Our Project”*
Helping families of the sick and needy for the High Holidays
We are a group of students and young professionals who have taken upon
ourselves twice a year- before Rosh Hashana and before Pesach- to help
families in need who live in severe poverty. The families which we aim to
help are those who can’t work because of various types of illnesses and
other handicaps.
These families cannot help themselves and so we are helping them to
celebrate the holidays with food baskets containing all essentials.
The families were carefully selected from the “Ezer Mitziyon” charity
database, a charity which does a lot in many fields for many families.
However, Ezer Mitziyon is so massively overloaded that it cannot provide the
help that these families need before Chag.
Therefore we are trying, out of goodwill, to help complete what’s missing
and provide for these families in these special times.
We have taken upon ourselves to help over 260 families, for each to receive
a “basket” worth approximately 1000 NIS.
We know the families personally, and therefore we can personalize each
basket to accommodate the needs of the various family members.
In addition to food, cleaning products and other essentials, we collect new,
unused presents to add to each basket, in order to make the family members-
some of whom have never received presents- to feel special during the
holiday times.
This project has been running since 1998, and every year, unfortunately, the
number of families in need continues to grow. We work very hard to try and
keep up with the increasing financial costs each year.
One of the main things we take pride in is the fact that *ALL the money and
help we receive goes fully and wholly to the families*. No salaries are
paid; and we all volunteer purely out of goodwill in order to help those
that are less fortunate.
This project is “Our Project”. We ourselves carry out every step in the
process- we collect the money, we buy the food, pack it ourselves and
finally deliver it to the families.
We really hope that indeed we will be able to attend to the needs of the
many families and enable all those children, elderly and people who have to
deal with daily hardship and strife, to enter the New Year with a feeling
that they are not alone, and with hopes to a brighter and sweeter future.
We ask you to be part of this operation. For *“Our Project”* to be just as
much *“Your Project”*
*tax deductible receipts are available .
Wishing a happy life to all of us,
Shana Tova, Ktiva Vachatima Tova.
