You all
know of the plight of Jonathan Pollard, who has served 23 years in prison for
transferring classified information to Israel. The entire Jewish
community,?including the?Orthodox Union, Agudath Israel,?the
National Council of Young Israel, and?The Conference of Presidents of
Major American Jewish Organizations, have strongly expressed its view that the
punishment?is excessive in comparison to others who have been sentenced
for similar charges. Many prominent Rabbonim in the US and Eretz Yisrael have
strongly supported those who have lobbied for Mr. Pollard's release.

A
significant effort is underway to appeal to President Bush to grant a pardon
before he leaves office. A website http://www.freepollardnow.com?has
been set up to enable people to join?a petition requesting Mr. Pollard's
release, and it also guides individuals in how to communicate to the President
in asking for clemency.

six soldiers in enemy captivity, namely:

Gilad ben Aviva (Shalit), 
captured just outside Gaza on June 25, 2006;

Guy ben Rina (Hever), 
disappeared near the Syrian-Israeli border in the Golan Heights in August 
1997;

Ron ben Batya (Arad), captured when his plane was downed over Lebanon 
in Oct. 1986;

Tzvi ben Pninah (Feldman), Yekutiel Yehuda Nachman ben Sarah 
(Katz), and Zecharia Shlomo ben Miriam (Baumel), all captured at the Sultan 
Yaaqub battle in Lebanon on June 
11,1982.
