Daniel?! The title was not invented until late Bayis Sheni! It
certainly can't appear in Tanach. If you're referring to 2:48, that is
a verb, not a title.
As for how the title was pronounced, perhaps the NT is evidence (nochri
mesiach lefi tumo) that it was pronounced with a patoch, at least in the
Galil.
I've also seen it suggested, however, that the true pronunciation is
mil'ra`, with a shvo noch under the reish, "r'bEE", and both traditional
nikkudim are attempts to approximate the same sound.
