[Mesorah] Kohain placement

"V'chibes hakohain b'gadav" would imply that the kohen must wash his
clothes himself, rather than -- what the pasuk is actually trying to convey
-- /somebody/ has to wash his clothes (doesn't matter who).

Another possible misunderstanding with your suggested wording would be "The
kohen must be washed [together with his clothes?]."
