[Mesorah] Nechtam or Nischateim

The mishnah Gittin 1:1 as it appears in the Y-mi has two tav's; it
reads "befanai nechtav, befanai nischateim". The subsequent gemara
(daf 1, at least, I haven't gotten further) uses both leshonos. Could
be the split in idiom dates back to the amoraim. But more likely one
of the two is a repeated copying error. And of the possible copying
errors, "nechtam" as it appears in the Bavli is a more plausible
mistake than accidentally adding a sav.

I wanted to look up the Rambam's girsa before writing, but then
decided that the way work is going this week, it would delay this
email until I forgot to write altogether.

My q for the chevrah: Which makes more sense grammatically -- "befanai
nechtam" or "befanai nischateim"?
