[Mesorah] suffix for a family: "uni" vs. "oni"

In P'Pin'chas (happy birthday, R'Micha :)), the family of Shimon is
"Shimoni," the family of Chetzron is "Chetzroni," and even the family of
Z'vulun (name ends with "un" rather than "on") is "Z'vuloni."  Why is the
family of Geir'shon "Geir'shuni" and not "Geir'shoni"?  Thanks.
