[Mesorah] the tarcha, FYI

While learning parts of Seifer Yirm'yahu to help complete<http://elmora.thejec.org/members/AnnouncementsList/2012/Announcements0077_2012May.htm#msg_thirteen> my community's recent Siyum TaNaCH, I noticed many footnotes highlighting a particular vowel and/or ta'am, and the notes which referred to the tipcha spelled it with a reish in place of the pei. Google reminded me <URL: http://goo.gl/KzIYm> that RDB wrote the following to Avodah some time ago <URL: http://www.aishdas.org/avodah/vol07/v07n065.shtml#07>: "the tipcha (or tircha = tarcha as it is often called in ta'amei emet)." Seems like the ta'am in question is also called a t*rcha at least in Yirm'yahu at least by someone (or perhaps someone thinks that this seifer is part of sifrei EMeT :)). Further Googling <URL: http://goo.gl/A1lIU> indicates that this ta'am is called a tarcha by MS in a Seifer-B'midbar comment (see http://parsha.blogspot.com/2009/06/careful-with-your-tipcha-or-you.html), by at least one "chacham" as quoted by Heidenheim (see http://hebrewbooks.org/pdfpager.aspx?req=7218&pgnum=12, esp. the footnote), apparently by Teimanim (see http://www.ou.org/torah/tt/5763/reeh63/dav.htm), in the "Sephardi cantillation" (see http://www.kolkore.com/downloads/eng_man.pdf, p.11, and http://utne.nvg.org/j/parasha/taamim_london.html), and by 17th-cent. Amama (see http://goo.gl/2dijs), Hanneken (see http://goo.gl/8AKW2), and Leusden (see http://goo.gl/JwP2D).

A gut'n Shabbos/Shabbas Shalom
and all the best from
