Caveat: I'm not taking a stand on whether or not adding "lanu" to Birkas Eirusin is problematic. But IF it is, then I would think that adding piyutim to Birchos Krias Shma and to the Amidah is even *more* problematic. Not necessarily in terms of "how are they allowed to make such a change", but in terms of sheer practicality.

Nowadays it is exceedingly rare for the chazan to be motzi someone, but I think it was not so rare in the days when these piyutim were first added. I've always wondered if a person was really expected to pay close attention to the chazan for such a long period of time, and if not, then how were they yotzay their own personal davening?
