I was not referring to the repetition, but to the speech given nowadays by the rabbi before the q'riah.  Was that made in your youth?
>From my youth, I knew lots of places that did the repetition, either of just the word, or the phrase (as you attest), or the entire pasuq.

I don't know where and when you had your youth but it
definitely existed in my youth and I was taught to read
double in parashat Zakhor - not the entire sentence but the
phrase "timcheh et zeikher Amalek".
