Maybe it's all because the Torah was written long before 
dilkduk was invented. Even tradition developed before 
dikduk. So we read by mesorah not by rule books.

Your mention of the mappikless d'mei tahora (or tohora) 
reminded me of another siman, one for y'mei tahora and 
d'mei tahora.

Yehudah.   After yud the hei is pronounced and after dalet 
the hei is not pronounced.
