[Mesorah] Hirhurim: Oh, Oy, Ow

I once saw a book  (I think on Google books, but I can't find it now) that
claimed that while all Litvaks used a "cheilem" in *Yiddish*, only the
"Litvak chasidim" (e.g. Chabad) used it in Hebrew (for davening and leyning)
as well, whereas the misnagdim used the "choylam" for liturgical purposes.
 Can anybody testify as to whether this is true?
