This is completely true. It is historical record that of all RSRH's many followers (and he had many, many adherents of his views), only about 10-20 followed him in the Austritt, because it meant not only not being buried with one's relatives, but also that one no longer was part of the Gemeinde hospital, old age home, could not use the communal hall where simchas were held. They remained followers, but could not afford or could not bring themselves to cut themselves off from all of the community.
40 years later, RSRH had succeeded, and no self-respecting Orthodox Hungarian, nor any of the "Breuer" community, would dream of sharing institutions with the Neolog/Reform.
The question is, as R. Micha says, did RSRH realize before his p'tirah how he had succeeded, despite his bitterness that most of his followers did not follow him when it came to taking the Tritt.> Date: Sun, 2 Dec 2007 11:11:50 -0500> From: micha at aishdas.org> To: areivim at sba2.com> CC: mesorah at lists.aishdas.org> Subject: Re: [Mesorah] "Vayigva Yitzchok vayomos vayeosef el amov"> > On Mon, Dec 03, 2007 at 12:50:04AM +1100, SBA wrote:> : RARakeffet blames the unpopularity of Austritt on this phenomenon.
