The first step is to look at Rambam, Rif and Rosh and go by the majority. He then states what to do in cases where one of the 3 has no opinion etc. I was wondering if anyone has ever done a study of all or a subset of the Beit Yosef’s rulings to see what percentage of the rulings support the claimed algorithm.
