The Bible-critical edifice built in the 19<sup>th</sup> century still

stands firm.  Therefore, Rabbi Hirsch's commentary on the Torah is

no less relevant than it was in the past.  Hence Rabbi Hirsch's

ideas, including those that stemmed from polemics below the surface of

his commentary on the Torah, still hold pride of place.<br>
