I also can't quote precise sources, but I remember hearing a different version many years ago: there are 620 *letters* in the aseret hadibrot (I just checked, and this is correct), representing 613 mitzvot d'oraita and 7 mitzvot derabbanan on which we say "...asher kiddeshanu bemitzvotav vetzivanu..."
