[Avodah] minhagim change over time

Understanding how certain minhagim change over time:
Imho this is a process which plays out historically without a clear algorithm. Only through the eyes of retrospection (e.g. the aruch hashulchan) is the result koshered (see hilchot aveilut as an example)
