[Avodah] Designer Babies?

Assume that gene editing technology reaches the point that "designer babies" are possible to an extent.  Assume that "intellectual acuity" genes can be identified and screened for.  Would a Desslerian philosophy allow (require?) mass screening and eventual genetic tinkering to provide a gadol hador material baby?  What if there was a clear tradeoff that this gene also resulted in a materially shorter life expectancy?
