As a side note, I have seen a manuscript /machzor/ (from the 1200s,
IIRC) in the NYPL where the censorship was evident: "שהם משתחווים להבל
וריק ומתפללים אל אל לא יושיע ואנחנו...". The letters were scraped off,
but their remnants are visible.

[The Hebrew reads: Sheheim mitshtachavim lehevel variq... va'anachnu..."
Which leaves me wondering: "variq" or "velariq"?
