Well, the Ramban felt sufficiently comfortable with the Samaritans to have one of them read the inscription on the Machatsis haShekel he found when he arrived in Israel that was written in kesav Ivri which is similar to the kesav of the Samaritans. Perhaps that is not “relating” to them in the sense you meant, (perhaps just credibility derived from a meisiach lifnei tumo situation?)
