I take "ulai" as an expression of "to give them the opportunity" (based upon my impression--that I'd have to go back and confirm--of the Ramban's shittos that as you say, by "Yodeia' asidos", he was ascribing to HQBH knowledge of the future with no exceptions. Ulai we are saying the same thing?
