[Avodah] avraham v. yakov?? (attitudes? job descriptions??)

is there a difference in the attitudes (and why??) of yaakov going down to get food (only to go down)
but not necessarily to stay there, 
versus avraham, where it says lagur sham.......
וַיְהִי רָעָב בָּאָרֶץ וַיֵּרֶד אַבְרָם מִצְרַיְמָה 

לָגוּר שָׁם כִּי כָבֵד הָרָעָב בָּאָרֶץ:


INTRODUCTION
And Jacob said (Genesis 42:2),

There are rations to be had in Egypt. Go down and procure rations for us there, that we may live and not die." [JPS translation  יֶשׁ שֶׁבֶר בְּמִצְרָיִם רְדוּ שָׁמָּה וְשִׁבְרוּ לָנוּ מִשָּׁם וְנִחְיֶה וְלֹא נָמוּת: 
For as long as people have lived, they have migrated in search of food and work.
