Among the sources brought there are Kitzur Shulchan Aruch Siman 17, Seif 7 and Mishnah Berurah Siman 24, Seif 2 [Seif Katan 4].
All I found  as to why specifically the tzizit are put down at "l'ad" is that  such is brought in the Kitvei Arizal. Perhaps someone can comment further after checking the sources.
