Whats really interesting about this is that it has nothing to do with whether one is actually Frum or not - it is about the way this person is PERCEIVED by others. The Ran explains NirAh ShaHu MachZik AtzMo KeChassid.


Dare I suggest that this may be a contributing factor to our long extended Galus?

I believe that this is what R' Wolbe calls Frumkeit - which he is absolutely opposed to. When one pursues Chumros in order to look Frum, they are doing it for the wrong reasons and it becomes counterproductive.
