Lo sosuru limits minhag -- a minhag can't violate halakhah, even
derabgbanan.

Bal tosif is only an issue if (1) the minhag ruins the numerical
significance of the mitzvah (5 minim, not 4); or (2) according to
the Rambam, if it's passed off as deOraisa.
