32:8/9 - 'Vayachatz es ha'am'...'vehoyo hamachneh hanishor lifleita'.
Yaakov split up his camp into 2 (and according to the Midrash - a day's
travel apart from each other).
Presumably Yaakov's main concern here in doing this 'yachatz' wasn't to save
his cattle or his servants - but rather his wives and children.

But what do we see further on 33:1/2 ?"Vayachatz es hayeladim",
but he had all the wives and children together welcoming Esav !
So what then was the purpose of the 'shney machnos'?

I have yet to see any of the meforshim discuss this.

OTOH, maybe Yaakov was trying to save some of his fortune. (For who??).
The Midrash 76:3 - uses the "Vayachatz es ha'am" as proof that a person
should not have all his money in one location.

Achrei Kosvi (uposti) zos - this morning I found in the Netziv's Haemek

(32:8 & 33:1) he writes that Yaakov was not planning to split up his family,
and in any case did not go ahead with his "Yachatz" plan.

Whilst it is comforting to see that at least someone (and noch vos-fara
'someone') else has thought of my query, the Netziv accepts this
huge change of the 'published' plan by Yaakov almost blithely.

But I ask, wouldn't such a serious reversal merit a mention (and
explanation)
- if not in the Torah - at least in Rashi?

And I still have difficulty with his statement that Yaakov was never
going to split the wives and children - and the "vayachatz' plan was to save
his fortune.

Another non-Pc Baal HaTurim re why Yaakov's children are called 'bnei'
whilst Esav's are 'velados'. Ayen shom 36:4.

Anyone else notice how Rashi keeps pointing out what a bunch of mamzerim
Esav's family were?
36: 2/5/12/24 (twice). "...vehodiacho hakosuv shekulom bnei mamzerus hayu.."

Which brings me to ask, why was Yaakov punished for refusing to let his 
daughter Dinah marry into such a pack of bs...?
