<div class="pf-content"><p dir="ltr">For the past three years or so, I belonged a <em>va’ad</em> led by haRav Naftali Kaplan <sup><em>shilit”a</em></sup>,the <em>mashgiach</em> and administrator of Yeshiva Netiv haDaas in Ramot. (His sons include Rav Avraham <sup><em>shilit”a</em></sup>, the Rosh Yeshiva, and <a title="Daf Yomi Review web site: Shiurim by Rav Nissim Kaplan" href="http://ravkaplan.dafyomireview.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Rav Nissan</a> <sup><em>shilit”a</em></sup>, a popular <em>maggid shiur</em> in the Mir.) A few months after we began, the <em>mashgiach</em> gave out artistic cards that contained the words of the Chazon Ish from E<em>munah uBitachon</em>, section I “<em>Emunah</em>“, ch. 11.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Here is the text, approximating the phrasing on the card, with my own translation:</p>

<p dir="ltr">

<p dir="rtl">יש איש מתאוה להיטיב לזולתו,<br />

הפגשו עם רעהו הוא לו לחדות לב,<br />

מקבלו בסבר פנים יפות,<br />

חרד אולי לא קלע אל המטרה לפי רוח רעהו,<br />

אולי דיבר דבר שלא כהוגן,<br />

כי אין כאב לב אצלו<br />

ככאב של פגיעה בכבוד חברו,<br />

או שחסר מרעהו חסד.</p>

<p dir="ltr">There is a [kind of] person who craves benefiting others.<br />

Encounters with his friends is for him something to cherish in the heart,<br />

he greets with with a pleasant countenance,<br />

fears that perhaps he misses the mark according to his friend’s spirit,<br />

perhaps he said something inappropriate.<br />

For he has no pain in his heart<br />

like the pain of impinging on his peer’s honor,<br />

or that he omitted some act of lovingkindness from his friend.</p>

<p dir="rtl">ומעולם לא נפגע הוא מרעהו,<br />

כי לבו המלא אהבה תכסה על כל פשעים.<br />

והוא מוכן מראש לקבל באהבה נאמנה<br />

פצעים ונזיפות שיחלוק לו רעהו,<br />

בידעו שאין רוב בני אדם אצילי המדות ומה אפשר לתבוע מהם.<br />

ובכל זאת רוחש לבו להם יקר וכבוד,<br />

ואין בלבו הרהורים רעים מעין זלזול בכבוד הבריות,</p>

<p>But he never does get hurt by others,<br />

for his heart that is full of love covers up all offenses.<br />

And he is prepared in advance to accept with genuine love<br />

barbs and criticism that his friends mete out on him,<br />

in his knowledge that most people do not have the most noble <em>middos</em>, and what can one demand of them?<br />

Yet with all this, his heart values and respects them,<br />

and his heart does not hold evil speculations of the sort that scorns another’s honor.</p>

<p dir="rtl">כי תפנוקי הנפש מפנקים את בעליהם להיות משמש למען הטוב המלא,<br />

גם בשני הפכים בנושא אחד,</p>

<p dir="rtl">ולהיות מאשים את עצמו על כל שעל<br />

על חסרון השלימות בסגולת המדות,</p>

<p dir="rtl">ולהיות מזכה את אחיו זכות גמורה ומוחלטת<br />

אף אם כעבות עגלה חטאיו.</p>

<p dir="ltr">The sensitivities of the soul motivate their owners to utilize, for the sake of the complete good<br />

both of two opposites in a single topic:</p>

<p dir="ltr">To accept blame for himself at all times<br />

for any lack of perfection in the virtue of <em>middos,</em></p>

<p dir="ltr">and [yet simultaneously] considers his friend completely and absolutely meritorious,<br />

even if his sins are [many,] like a laden cart.</p>

<p dir="rtl">יקיר הנפש דנן, אינו דורש מנפשו התאפקות יתירה, וחגירת שארית כח,<br />

נגד הרגזנות הטבעית, ונגד כאב של הלבנת פנים,<br />

כי נפשו כבר מלוטשת ומצוחצחת שאינה מקבלת כתמים, והוא שובע שמחות וגיל בנעימות נצח.</p>

<p dir="ltr"><span id="result_box" class="" lang="en" tabindex="-1"><span class="">The dear one of the soul in question does not demand from his soul excessive restraint</span><br />

<span class="">against natural irritability, and against [causing] the pain of one’s face blanching [in embarrassment],</span><br />

<span class="">Because his soul is already refined and polished, which does not get stains, and he is full of happiness and rejoices in eternal pleasure.</span></span></p>
